10 Myths and Misconceptions
- 1: Language is best framed as a school subject. 2: Language equals literacy.
- 3: More English is always better: more in school, and more at home.
- 4: Everyone should understand everything that is said, all the time.
- 5: There is one correct form of English.
- 6: Only some students are language learners.
- 7: Only some teachers are language teachers.
- 8: The younger the better for language acquisition.
- 9: Methodology is neutral; it doesn’t really matter how the content is conveyed.
- 10: Language policies and practices have little to do with ethics.
