Abstract
Rooted in sociology, conflict theory affords a valuable lens for examining family relationships. While the theory has been used to explain class differences within society – particularly as related to economic wealth, political power, and social status – when applied to families, conflict theory is helpful in understanding how and why stability and instability occur within family contexts.
