Abstract
In the past twenty years teacher happiness and wellbeing have been an increasingly studied topic of research. Researchers and teacher educators are examining the struggle to rebound from the global COVID-19 pandemic and face new realities in schools. Witnessing less students choosing to become teachers (Fuller, 2023), the increase of mental health concerns of current university students (Abrams, 2022), classroom teachers leaving the profession (Barnum, 2023), combined with teachers experiencing burnout and dissatisfaction at record rates (Kush et.al, 2022), teacher educators are seeking to research and make sense of this phenomenon. This review of the literature focuses on studies in the past five years that have examined topics of teacher happiness seeking to understand the implications. Definitions of key terms, themes, and gaps in the research are presented in the hopes of inspiring the next generation of teacher educators towards considering happiness and wellbeing when preparing teachers.
