Inspired by Frederic Edwin Church’s painting, Syria by the Sea, 1874.

The greedy garden devours the landscape,
and moss itches up the lone pillar still erect,
having forgotten the climax of its rich civilization
that persists solely as light scattered on crumbled stone....
