This T. Morris Chester Story Map collection was developed through the collaboration of the T. Morris Chester Welcome Center and Research Collection at the McCormick Riverfront Library, Messiah University’s Center for Public Humanities, and the Center for Applied Environmental and Geospatial Technology at Harrisburg University. The story map is part of a broader collaborative initiative, “The Chester Way: Stories of Freedom, Equity, and Justice in Pennsylvania’s Capital Region,” which centers around the 'way' of Thomas Morris Chester, the highly respected Black journalist, soldier, lawyer, and civil rights proponent in the U.S. and wider world in the 19th century. Messiah University film students filmed and edited the video interview with Mr. Eric Jackson (as Thomas Morris Chester) in April 2023 for Professor Krista Imbesi's course in Documentary and Promotional Film, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Past Players, a project of IIPT Commonwealth Monument Project and fiscal agent The Foundation for Enhancing Communities. The film crew included Micah Pitman (director), Nick Rizutto (grip), Tyler Caruso (editor), and Hope Roberts (sound recordist). TJ Peterson worked on the Story Maps part of the project, with advising from Albert Sarvis. This item was developed and published in collaboration with the IIPT-Commonwealth Monument Project, with support and funding from Messiah University's Center for Public Humanities and the Council of Independent College's Humanities Research for the Public Good Grant Program.
